What you need to know before abortion and how we can help:
Am I sure that I’m pregnant?
You need to be sure your pregnancy has been confirmed medically first, by more than just a home pregnancy test. Did you know that about 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage? Some pregnancies may also occur outside of the uterus, known as ectopic pregnancy. If these complications occur, you may not need an abortion. Before getting an abortion, it’s important to be sure that your pregnancy is viable (living) and in the right place (the uterus). Our centers can help you with this through free pregnancy test confirmation and a free ultrasound.
What type of abortion procedure would I have to have?
This depends on how far along you are. At our center, you can learn how far along you are through a free ultrasound. You can also talk to our nurses about the different types of abortion procedures and the risks associated with them.
I’ve already decided to have an abortion, what do I need to do next?
Under Virginia law, you are required to have an ultrasound before receiving an abortion to determine how far along you are. We provide ultrasounds free of charge, at no cost to you, while many abortion clinics will charge you for this requirement. Our ultrasounds are performed by a registered nurse sonographer and reviewed by an OB/GYN doctor. We want to ensure you have all the information you need before your abortion. How far along are you? Do you know what procedure you will need to have? Do you know the risks? We understand that this is a difficult decision; we are here for you.
